2022 will be 30 years since the birth of what became known as Britpop with the release of Blur's Popscene single in March 1992 closely followed by Suede's single The Drowners in May 1992, which are both widely considered to be the best early examples of the genre. The term 'Britpop' was not used until 1993 but over the next few years it developed as a hugely significant, musical, cultural and social phenomenon in the UK. This book is a timely guide to many of the significant artists and recordings of the genre and quite a few less well known ones as well. The book's introduction examines the cultural and social aspects of Britpop in some detail, as well as the musical ones. Whilst the book's main focus is on Britpop artists and their recordings in the nineties, where bands and significant solo artists from the Britpop era recorded beyond that point their careers are covered up to the end of November 2021. The book's scope is therefore broader than its title might suggest. There are also postscript sections covering the main post-Britpop bands of the early noughties and some subsequent Britpop revival bands too. The numbered, limited edition of 1,000 copies across 728 pages is profusely illustrated and also contains 16 pages of full colour illustrations. There is also a rarity scale for all featured artists' albums, EPs and singles and details of the main various artists' compilations covering the genre.
