Hungry Beat is about the Scottish independent music labels Fast Product and Postcard Records. The book covers the period 1977-83, starting with the Subway Sect and the Slits performance at the White Riot tour in Edinburgh on 7th May 1977, through to Bob Last taking the Human League from being an experimental electronic group on Fast Product to managing them as Don't You Want Me became a number 1 single in the USA and UK. It includes interviews with Bob Last and others involved in Fast Product, including members of The Human League, Scars, Gang of Four, The Mekons, Fire Engines, as well as interviews with members of Postcard groups (Orange Juice, Josef K, Aztec Camera, The Go-Betweens, The Bluebells, Jazzateers), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and Peter Hook.
